Who we are

Safety Net is an independent registered charity which aims to promote safety and wellbeing for children, young people and families, in the home, school and community. Our aim is to find ways to work together with communities to keep children and young people safe.

Working Together to keep children safe

Safety Net’s programme is a unique and creative approach to promoting children’s safety. It was founded on the Whitehawk Estate, Brighton in 1995 through a multi-agency and local resident partnership, with the aim of preventing child abuse using community development methods. We began in a campaigning role, directly around child abuse prevention, but quickly discovered that such a head-on approach was too unsafe for most parents. As a result, the project looked for a less threatening way of working, which resulted in the adoption of the Protective Behaviours process as a framework for our work. We now take a broader view and address abuse issues within the wider context of Keeping Children Safe.  We work in partnership with schools, parents, children, community groups, voluntary and statutory agencies to raise awareness of how keep children safe.
