Work with Children and Young People As part of our work, we often talk to children and young people about their views on safety issues that affect their lives and we have found that they are just as worried about safety issues in their communities as adults. In response to children's concerns we have established a bullying prevention programme called Playground Buddies and we have recently been funded by Children in Need to run SNAP groups to support children who have been affected by bullying or need support with building their confidence and self-esteem. We also offer training to children on personal safety in schools and we have involved children in a range of consultation processes on community safety issues through our Safety Squads. We have been funded by the Big Lottery to further develop this consultation work with younger children so watch this space. All of our work in schools is complementary to PSHE and SEAL curriculum materials. Children and young people involved in the schools' safety programme have presented at national conferences and have been awarded The Princess Diana award for their work. We now also run a Peer support forum to bring together children who are involved in our different programmes of work. Schools can buy in many our schools' programmes, please go to our Training page for more details. |
