This course is designed for those who will be acting as Safeguarding Lead in a community or voluntary setting, regardless of the type of organisation you work for or your geographical location. Some prior knowledge of safeguarding is expected, please contact the Training team on 01273 420973 for further details.
This one day course covers issues relating to all age groups up to 18 and is divided into two sessions.
Morning Session: We look at your role in establishing a safe environment and safe working practices in protecting children and young people from harm and abuse. The course will also look at identifying signs that a child might be at risk and responding to keep the child and themselves safe. It will also cover background information about the law and child protection.
Afternoon Session: A more in depth session covering aspects of Safeguarding & Child Protection required for a Designated Safeguarding Lead, including:
- The role and responsibilities of the designated safeguarding children officer
- Related policies and procedures
- Creating a safeguarding culture
- Making referral decisions and what happens after a referral
- Key issues around record keeping, sharing information and confidentiality
- Safeguarding action plan for your role and organisation
- Support networks

Places on courses cancelled with less than two weeks notice before the course start date will not be refunded. All courses are based upon a minimum of 12 attendees. If under subscribed, Safety Net may postpone a course until the following scheduled date and move your booking accordingly.
